For many, finding ways to give back to their community is on their list of resolutions for the new year! Whether it's by giving your time and talents to a one-day event or creating a longer volunteering relationship, plenty of organizations can use your help around The Woodlands.

If you're overwhelmed by all the volunteer opportunities open to you, we've rounded up a list below of some great organizations that might be a fit for you!

Lone Star Animal Welfare League

The LSAWL is a non-profit organization that provides low-cost veterinary care and spaying and neutering services for dogs. It also seeks volunteer foster families for the animals, event planners, help with fundraisers, and more!

Houston Methodist The Woodlands

Volunteers at Houston Methodist The Woodlands are needed to help various hospital areas, such as the registration centers, food services, and the gift shop. They can also provide pet therapy and other comfort items through their work with local organizations. Volunteers must be able to commit at least four hours a week and be flu vaccinated yearly.

Montgomery County Women’s Center

Through its various programs, the agency helps victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse. It also provides legal services, housing, and a 24-hour hotline. Some of its regular volunteer activities include organizing Christmas programs, making meals, sorting donations at a resale store, and maintaining its facilities.

South Montgomery County Friends of the Library (SMCFOL)

Book lovers and literacy advocates - this is an opportunity for you! Through their non-profit organization, SMCFOL, they can support the South Regional Library and the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library. The organization provides these two branches of the Montgomery County Library System additional support to offer a wide range of programs and resources beyond what the county budget can provide. Volunteers man the Friends Shops at libraries during sales or in sorting materials, and they run committees, book sales, and other special events.

Henry’s Home Horse Sanctuary

The organization seeks volunteers to help care for horses and perform farm work. It also needs help in various other areas, such as fundraising and marketing. The group's primary goal is to serve veterans and first responders, and volunteers are always welcome. If you have any special skills (electricians, plumbing, construction, etc.), these services are always requested and welcome.

Are you planning to give back in 2023? Where are your favorite places and organizations to volunteer?
